How do you prove your identity on social media? This simple question does not really have a good answer.
On X you can get a blue check if you have a paid subscription and meet requirements such as ‘Your account must have no signs of being misleading or deceptive’. This requires payment, and ultimately relies on the discretion of X.
You could post a picture of yourself with some specific message, but the rise of deepfakes has made this method unreliable.
In the crypto world you can demonstrate that you are the owner of a given wallet by providing a ‘signature’. This is great for certain purposes but is not practical for most others, at least at the moment.
At Reclaim Protocol we’ve put together a proof of concept for solving this problem, by using our cryptographic technology in a simple way. It allows you harness an existing account you have with a service that has verified your identity, without sharing your password or other private information to anybody.
